Indian Railways has taken a major step in increasing its freight-carrying capacity. In India, the use of concrete sleepers is common nowadays. There are about 25 factories manufacturing concrete sleepers in our country.
The Research and Development Standards Organization, a wing of Indian Railways, has designed a most sturdy sleeper called “Mono Block Prestressed Concrete Railway Sleeper, which is used nowadays by Indian Railways for their track modernization program, which includes laying of tracks and replacement of old tracks.

In the year 2004-2005, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has invited enthusiastic investors to come forward and invest in the development of the twin cities by providing road medians, foot overbridges, bus shelters at different parts of the city under BOT scheme. The scheme was to develop these amenities at the cost of the investor, and on completion of the project, the investor can erect advertisement boards in their stretches as per the rules and conditions of the HDMC, and the income, if generated, will be the returns for the investments made therein. Mr. Prasad came forward for the call of the commissioner HDMC Mr. Manivannan and developed the following stretches.
